What is a Kyphoplasty?

Kyphoplasty is an advanced procedure for patients that suffer a vertebral compression fracture. When a bone fractures, swelling and pain are common symptoms. As swelling increases, spinal misalignments can increase causing irritation to surrounding tissues and nerves. Once there is damage to a vertebrae, the misalignments and weight distribution associated with the injury can set the stage for another fracture. Repairing the injury early is imperative to overall balance & long term pain control.

Using X-rays, a specialized balloon is inserted into the fractured bone through a minimal incision. The fractured bone is then re-expanded in an effort to re-establish bone height. Following this, the balloon is deflated and removed and bone cement is delivered into the fractured bone using a hollow needle thus stabilizing the fracture.

What are the benefits of a Kyphoplasty?

Kyphoplasty has been shown to restore height of the vertebrae, helping correct the vertebral deformity. Kyphoplasty can now be safely performed in the clinical setting using minimal sedation. However, some insurance plans do require it be done in the hospital outpatient setting which means you will generally be sent home on the same day. Additional benefits include:

What is a Neurostimulator?

Who is a candidate?

First consult your doctor or pain specialist to determine if you are a candidate. Typically, a good candidate for Neurostimulation is someone who has experienced one or more of the following: Chronic pain in the back, neck, arms, or legs with little or no relief from surgery or other treatment options to include pain medications, physical therapy and interventional procedures.

What is Radiofrequency Abalation?

Radiofrequency ablation is a procedure used to provide longer term pain relief than that provided by simple injections or nerve blocks. Many patients who are being considered for this procedure have already undergone simple injection techniques like Epidural Steroid Injection, Facet Joint Injection, Sympathetic Nerve Blocks, or other nerve blocks with pain relief that is less prolonged than desired. By selectively impairing nerves that carry pain impulses, the painful structure can be effectively denervated.

What are the benefits of Radiofrequency Ablation?

The Radiofrequency Ablation procedure is a well established pain management tool that if successful, may allow you to decease your pain medications and increase your ability to perform more activities of daily life comfortably. The most common side effect is discomfort at the site of the procedure. However, you may also experience bruising, swelling and muscle spasms.
